The New Life Center (NLC) was started in 2000 as an outreach ministry of the Club Creek “New Life” Community Baptist Church in Southwest Houston as an extension of its mission to the indigent and disempowered in Houston/Harris County. Services offered included a food pantry and a clothes closet for homeless and indigent clients. In October 2002, The Center was registered as a separate 501 © non-profit organization with an 8-member governing Board of Directors and given the mission “to provide health and social services to men, women, and children, and to do this with compassion”. Since then, services at NLC have expanded to include HIV/STD and substance abuse counseling and education; health prevention and education in diabetes, high blood pressure and cancer, support groups for HIV+ individuals and recovering addicts, and tutoring for children at risk for academic failure. Historically we have received support from individuals locally and grants from the federal government to support our programs, and our Board of Directors aggressively seeks funding through private and governmental resources. Dr. Joseph Osei-Frimpong.is the Executive Director of The New Life Center. Joseph holds a doctorate in Molecular Biology and a Masters degree in Health care Administration. He has over 10 years of community health services and research project management and over 15 years of program implementation, evaluation and outcomes management experience both at for-profit and the non-profit sectors. Joseph is a principal architect behind the formation of the African American Health Institute (AAHI) of Houston, a consortium of grassroots community health care and social services agencies and individuals from the community including the academia, whose purpose is to address health disparities in minorities, with a focus on African American children, adolescent and women in the Houston/Harris County geographical area. The NLC staff reflects the diverse cultural backgrounds of the target population and we are committed to hiring staff that reflect the ethnic and cultural backgrounds of the target population, and the neighborhoods with which we work. Our staff is able to interact with the target population and the community in a way that demonstrates openness, understanding and respect. All our prevention interventions are comprehensive, integrated and research-based. For more information please contact us. New Life Home Health Services |
